Today, on the Basketball Manitoba Podcast, we have Dan Becker.
He graduated from Fort Richmond Collegiate and played college basketball at St. Joseph’s University before transferring to the University of Colorado. He then went on a 12-year journey through the professional ranks, playing in Europe, Asia, and Australia and back home in Canada with the Winnipeg Thunder and Winnipeg Cyclone pro teams. He also had the opportunity to try out for the NBA with the Indiana Pacers and Denver Nuggets.
He also represented Canada on the National stage at the World University Games and Jones Cups in Taipei, where he notably won a Silver Medal facing the United States.
After playing, he stepped back into the Manitoba basketball community as a coach, spending time at the University, Provincial Team, high school, and club levels. He is currently the Technical Director at Basketball Manitoba, a position he’s held for 13 years.
Other notable achievements include…
- Big Eight Conference Select Team member in 1988.
- Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame member Class of 2013.
- Gold Medal coach at the 2014 National Championship for the 17U Male Provincial Team.

    I agree with a lot of the info provided in this clinic, I also believe there is still a place for actions such as 3 man weave, especially with players new yo the game. 3 man weave helps with understanding timing and coordination with being able to catch and pass and score. I would also add in different variations, say 3 man weave until half court, then play to score against defense, etc. Teach how having the ball come from different entry points along the court affects play. Always find something new to be abke to show players. Great clinic!

    Thank you, thank you, thank you. One of the first videos I've seen on what coaching is or could be in an ideal world. Not performance based but learning based with players 'doing' and coming up with their own solutions and not following a pre-described solution from the coach. Bravo! This is in the minority of what we see coaching I hope to see change to the majority. Not isolated nor unopposed. Thank you.

    maybe the second or third time I've watched this, time on task and self discovery is so important in youth sports development. yes, we as coaches are there to guide and correct, but did Tony Hawk have a coach when he was 12 years old? Just really love this approach.
